The grade 1 chief Majestrate in Wakiso John Francis Kaggwa has led the team that has trained people in Namayumba on how to exercise their rights and how to handle land conflicts using their local leaders before they think of going to court.

Land conflicts, which have become rampant in the country have called for authorities attention as it has led to negative consquencies to the public where some people have lost their lives within the process.

While in the meeting with the people of Namayumba in Bukondo parish on issues concerning the law and human rights, Majestrate Kaggwa noted that it is important for residents to engage their local leaders and village based courts to settle conflicts concerning land, as these leaders are directly responsible over issues concerning residents. He said that the court level should come in after the local leaders feel they have failed to handle a particular issue.

He also showed need for residents to respect their local leaders since they know more about the issues concerning the areas they lead and the people who reside in such areas.

Residents of Bukondo parish, being led by the Suncounty chairman  Joseph Muzenze expressed the pain they are going through under the mistreatment of the land owners which they said that they are continuously violating their  human rights.

Residents reported to the chief Majestrate that they nolonger trust their local leaders and the local courts they head, due to the fact that some of them conspire with the so called land owners and they evict them from their land using false documents.

Thd Chairman for Human rights committee in Wakiso Elly Kasirye has cautioned people not to leave their land idle as it gives land encroachers high chances to occupy and use their land and stopping them becomes problematic.
