Inter Religious council of Uganda meets opposition leaders

The opposition leaders under their Umbrella the United forces of change have been accusing the religious leaders under the Inter religious council of Uganda IRCU for being silent when Ugandans are going through different challenges.

The IRCU has finally met with these leaders of opposition from different political parties such as the National Unity Platform NUP, Forum for Democratic Change FDC, Alliance for national transformation and others who presented their dissatisfaction to IRCU, so that they can devise means of putting things right together without conflicting with the government.

During the meeting at the IRCU headquarters in mengo, participants discussed bout the police rounding up homes of opposition politicians and preventing them from moving out, imprisonment of opposition supporters and other challenges faced by Ugandans.

The Chairman for inter religious council of Uganda and the Archbishop of the church of Uganda His Grace Dr. Samuel Steven Kaziimba Mugalu noted that the opposition politicians have been complaining that religious leaders don’t attend their functions however much they invite them. and expressed that these leaders were not following the right procedures when organising these functions.

On the challenges affecting Ugandans, His Grace emphasised that as religious leaders, they have different tactics of handling issues with maturity especially through engaging people in different offices but all being done to ensure that Ugandans live happy and comfortable lives. He added that religious leaders are not politicians therefore they know how to handle every issue at the right time with the right people.

The leader of opposition in parliament Joel Ssenyonyi arged religious leaders to raise their voices to seek for justice to Ugandans who have been imprisoned for long without being released, those who are going through torture and human rights violations, those who disappeared from their families and their way abouts are not yet known among other forms of torture.

He added that they will continue to engage religious leaders to be guided on how to seek for justice to Ugandans.
