Jacob Kiplimo voted USPA best sports personality For the month of February

Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) unanimously voted the World Cross Country gold medalist, Jacob Kiplimo as the best sports personality of the month of February.

USPA voted the athletics star on Monday 6th March 2023 while holding their monthly Assembly at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.

Since it’s a new executive, they, this month came with new categories to award which includes; the promising talent award.

Below are the various winners from different categories

Eric Ofoyuru– Won the promising talent award.

The 14-year-old from Pearl of Africa Badminton Academy against world beaters made it to the Main Draw of the Uganda Junior International Challenge. He is the 2021 World Secondary School Badminton Champion and National School Games MVP.

Ofoyuru, who collected 180 votes, won the accolade ahead of Uganda Hippos Rogers Mugisha (175 votes), Asubo Gafford Ladies’ Kamuyati Naigaga (155 votes) and Amos Ayikoowa (115) of KCCA FC U17 side.

Nick Natuhereza – Won Supportive/ assist award

He is credited for improving a lot of players and guiding careers. As the Technical Director at FUBA, he ably stepped in for Gazelles coach Albert Antuna during the Zone V Afro basket qualifiers.

Natuhereza who collected 185 votes, won the accolade beating Uganda Badminton Association CEO Simon Mugabi (180 votes), Asubo Gafford ladies’ Zaitun Namaganda (140 votes) and coach Rogers Nkugwa (95 votes)

Jacob Kiplimo won the USPA Nile Special Sports personality for month of February unanimously after winning gold at The World Cross Country Championship in Bathurst Australia.

The assembly commended Fadilah Shamikah Mohammed Rafi after winning gold in Women’s singles category at the All Africa Senior Badminton Championships in South Africa despite being a junior. Fadilah also won three bronze (Women’s Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles) in the Uganda Junior International Challenge 2023.

The Gazelles that finished runners up in the Zone V Afrobasket Championship were also recommended just like Uganda Hippos forward Rogers Mugisha and defender Rogers Torach who were named in the best eleven of the group stages in the Africa U20 Nations Cup.
