Uganda Cranes coach, Jonathan Mckinstry sacked

Jonathan Mckinstry says it has been a pleasure for him to work with dedicated staffs and players to develop the Uganda cranes since he joined the national team in 2019.

On Monday it was announced that FUFA and Mckinstry had reached an agreement to bring the Northern Irishman’s contract to an end after just 18 months.

Mckinstry who has been in charge of the national football team, the Uganda Cranes since September 2019 had signed athree- year contract that still had a running period of 17 months.

Mckinstry released a statement responding to his sacking on monday afternoon on his website.

“I have today reached an agreement with FUFA to bring to an end my role as head coach of the Uganda men’s national football team”, reads a statement from Mckinstry.

It has been my pleasure to work with dedicated staff and players to develop the Uganda cranescranes since 2019 a period that saw us win 2 in every 3 game,recording 67% win rate including 12 wins , 3 draws and 3 defeats across our time together.

“It was particularly rewarding to lead Uganda to victory in the CECAFA challenge cup 2019 by winning all of our game something which has only been achieved once before by Uganda in their history .

” My thanks also to the wider football fraternity in Uganda in Uganda for their support ever the last 18 months , and to the player and efforts during our time together .

“I wish both FuFA and the Uganda cranes the very best in seeking to move forward.

During his 18 month stay as the head coach , Mckinstry was in charge of 18 games winning 12 drawing and losing thrice each.

At the start of last month , he was asked by FUFA to step aside from his role for one month and Abdalah Mubiru and Livingstone Mbabazi were appointed as interim coaches ahead of the just concluded cranes failed AFCON 2021/qualification campaign.
