Just like any other act of bringing people together, giving is especially impactful. Those facing difficult situations often need support without expecting anything in return, as a way of expressing love for humanity.

Such groups include, but are not limited to, individuals facing financial challenges, those affected by natural disasters, the sick, and the vulnerable.

According to the National NGO Forum, giving is a way to bring people together, putting smiles on the faces of recipients and giving them hope for a better tomorrow.

In this context, journalists are seen as tools to spearhead the conversation about generous giving, as they can easily influence people and draw attention to a common cause. This can be achieved by telling these stories, allowing the voices of recipients to be heard and giving them a chance to receive help.

Jackie Asiimwe, the CEO of CivSource Africa, notes that the media has the potential to shape and change narratives. As a tool for change, it can showcase how generosity manifests in our communities and how it contributes to their development.

She appealed to journalists to pay more attention to stories about generosity, just as they do with education, health, and other topics. This focus could help attract more people to giving and create a meaningful impact.

The Communications Specialist CivSource Africa,  Ednah Rebecca notes that while communicating such messages, journalists need to be attentive to the language they use to avoid being misquoted, stigmatizing recipients, or discouraging them from providing information.
