Julius Kakeeto appointed new Post Bank managing director

Post Bank Uganda has has appointed Mr. Julius Kakeeto as the new managing director to succeed Mr. Stephen Mukwali who is retiring.

Mr. Mukwali has been in the role for the 15 years.

The new MD, Kakeeto, who has a wealth of banking experience spanning over 19 years in Uganda and the United Kingdom started his banking career with Ernest and Young before joining Citibank where he rose through the ranks—serving in various capacities.

After Citibank, he joined Equity Bank Uganda as a finance director before joining Orient Bank.

His most recent assignment has been Managing Director/CEO of Orient Bank for the last four and half years.

According to notice, Mr. Kakeeto is a Fellow of the Association of Charted Certified Accountants (FCCA), a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda and an alumni of Manchester Business School in the United Kingdom where he obtained an MBA.

The bank did not say when he is expected to take up the role.

Post Bank is owned by the Uganda government with 100 per cent shareholding. It is limited by shares and formed under the Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture Statute of 1983 and the Uganda Communications Act, 1997 and incorporated under the Companies Act in 1998.

The government says it is an important institution it lends money to small and medium enterprises and individuals who may not be able to get money from bigger banks because of their risk profile.
