The Buganda Premier Owek Charles Peter Mayiga has launched Kabaka’s 11th birthday run 2024 and the organising committee for the birthday celebrations.
The Kabaka of Buganda His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi the II will this year make 69 years and the birthday run is to take place on 7/04/2024 in Kabaka’s palace in Mengo and around all Buganda counties and outside Buganda, yet the birthday is celebrated on 13th April every year.
While launching the birthday run in Bulange mengo, Owek Charles Peter Mayiga called upon people to make all the possible moves to fight against the spread of HIV/AIDs. He added that if men and woman join the fight against HIV/AIDs, it will lead Buganda Kingdom and the country to development.
Representing the Chairman for the organising committee,( Owek Haji Twaha Kawaase) the second Deputy Katikkiro Owek. Robert Wagwa Nsibirwa noted that Kabaka’s birthday run is a reminder to the public about the effects of HIV/AIDs and appealed to men to join the move in the fight against the virus.
The Minister of youth, games, sports and talents in the kingdom Owek Robert Sserwanga Salongo said that however much this year’s birthday run continues with the fight against HIV/AIDs, it is also aimed at lifting the health well being of the people.
On behalf of the Uganda AIDs commission, Dr. Vincent Bagambe revealed that currently, the spread of HIV/AIDs in the country has decreased from 18% to 5%, and praised the kabaka of Buganda His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi the II for leading the campaign against the spread of the virus which has led to this decrease.
The Chairman for the organising committee of the birthday run is the first Deputy Katikkiro Owek Haji Twaha Kawaase and the Chairman for the organising committee of the 69th birthday celebrations is the minister of local government Owek Joseph Kawuki.
110,000 people are expected to participate in this year’s birthday run.
This year’s birthday run theme is “Men for good health to save the girl child and the fight to end HIV/ AIDS by 2030.
