Ever since the bridge that connects DRC to Uganda through Kasese district broke down in December 2023, Uganda National Roads Authority has not fully come out to find a final solution to the bridge’s breakdown which has called for negative reactions from the residents around Mpondwe.

In this way, Local leaders and Residents of Mpondwe Lhubiriha Town council in Kasese district have come out to express their concern towards UNRA for failure to come out with a meaningful response towards the common problem.

The Mayor Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council Selvest Mapoze, expressed concern towards UNRA for not coming out clearly to show plans of reconstructing the bridge as they keep promising to turn up since December last year, but in vain.

One of the bridge users Joakim Muhindo noted that since the bridge broke down, drivers and motorists find it hard to use it as this has increasingly led to numerous accidents that damage and claim people’s lives.

It should be noted that ever since the bridge broke down, UNRA provided small alternative bridges to be used as the plan to reconstruct the bridge but since motorists, drivers and pedestrians use the same small bridges, many accidents have emerged threatening people’s lives and it has greatly affected people’s businesses.

Kasese residents therefore challenge UNRA to come out and provide plans of reconstructing the bridge so that transport through this bridge becomes easier.
