The Uganda schools team of cricket has been flagged off to Rwanda to participate in Quadrangular youth series to be held in Kigali Rwanda from 23rd September to 27th 2019.
The players on the school select side were chosen from the 2019 edition of the schools’ cricket week.
While, flagging off the Uganda schools select team today evening Friday 20th September 2019 at NCS premises Lugogo, the vice chairman of National council of sports, Mr. Katende promise the youngsters a token of appreciation when are performed well in the tournament.
” In Uganda, sports is our key objective and do not just go to participate but go with the goal to compute and when you come back with medals, NCS are ready to give token of appreciation”.
He also thank the Uganda Cricket Association to give a chance for the youngsters to expose their talent and to represent the country.
“Some federations in Uganda they didn’t give the youngsters a chance, they only do recycling of players and undermine the young ones a chance to represent the country”.
The team went through a one – week high performance training camp under the guidance of three high level coaches in preparation for this trip.
The purpose of the tour is to expose the youngsters to competition outside their comfort zones as they are looking towards preparing a team for the 2021 U19 World cup qualifiers. It is worth to note that this is mostly a new group of boys with only three players’ part of the U19 side that featured in the Star Field Tournament in August this year.
The quadrangular youth series is an invitation tournament that will feature two youth sides from Rwanda and Nyakasura school from Uganda.
The games will be played at the Gahanga Oval on the T20 format.
The schools select side will be led by Sine Aaron from Kings College Buddo with Mohammed Yakubu from Makerere college as his assistant.
Habib Mugalula is the head coach of the side with Denis Musali as team manager.
