The Buganda Premier Owek Charles Peter Mayiga has toured the oil source in Kingfisher Kikuube in Bunyoro next to Muttanzige lake in Tilenga, the areas where oil is to be checked and tested before being refined. He has been led by the area manager Mazen Abi Azar and his team.
The Katikkiro has commended the efforts the government has invested in the areas where oil is to be refined such as the Airport construction, infrastructural development, schools, hospitals among others saying, it has led to area development.
However, he suggested that if sectors such as agricultural sector were developed at the same time, it would help the country to attain economic development.
Owek Mayiga has appealed to Ugandans around the oil mining areas, to avoid politicizing oil mining in these areas through criticizing the system, but rather to grab whatever opportunity that comes in this sector for their advantage and personal development.
The Second deputy Katikkiro Owek Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa noted that the Kingdom of Buganda is in collaboration with the contractors to make sure that the people in the areas where the oil pipe is to bypass from Hoima to Tanzania benefit from their land through compensation.
He has urged all ministries in the central government to make plans to actively engage Ugandans in oil mining to see that they benefit from the oil in their country.
