The Buganda Premier Owek Charles Peter Mayiga has argued parents to encourage their children to look at farming as a profitable source of income that can sustain their families.
Most children look at farming as a venture that requires alot of patience yet they want to earn quick money. This discourages many from engaging in farming activities. It should be noted that many families have survived on farming where parents sell off their Agro products and earn money that has been used to support their families, according to Owek Charles Peter Mayiga, this needs to be brought into light to the children of this generation so that they can concentrate more in farming.
Speaking to the schools and coffee farmers from Wakiso district, who had gathered in Mengo to hand in their contribution towards Buganda Kingdom development, to the Buganda Prime minister in Bulange, through Luwalo project, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga challenged parents to endeavor showing their children the goodness in farming so that they can invest in it in future.
He added that many parents encourage their children to study looking at only white color jobs ignoring the concept of farming, which he says is also profitable enough to support a family.
However, he appealed to the farmers around the country to invest in more profitable ventures and construct more nice and respectable houses, dress appropriately and change their standards, to dismiss allegations that they earn less from their efforts.
The prime minister discouraged parents from investing in a lot of riches as away of preparing for their children, thinking it will help to sustain them, but instead to prepare the minds of their children to be able to work and achieve on their own.
In the same way, the minister for local government in Buganda government Owek Joseph Kawuki, has commended the Prime minister for bringing the students and coffee farmers together saying, this has helped the students to get a live example of how profitable farming is, thought the contribution made by the coffee farmers, thereby attracting them to join farming in future.
A total amount of 22.35 million has been received by the Katikkiro from Wakiso coffee farmers and students from St. Pius SSS Kiziba Masuliita, pupils of Heritage junior School among others.
