Katikkiro Mayiga opens Buddukiro house in Buddu County

Katikkiro of Buganda Owek Charles Peter Mayiga officially opened Buddukiro house where the Buganda chief incharge of Buddu county is to reside and perform the county activities.

Buddu people have made contributions towards the construction of this house and over 230 million shillings has been spent until it’s completion.

Speaking to the people who gathered to witness the opening of Buddukiro house, Katikkiro commended Buddu people for working together and noted that Federal system does not mean overthrowing the government, but to work together for the development of the country. He stated that this and alot more can be done if the kingdom is fully given its federal.

The Minister of local government in Buganda kingdom Owek Joseph Kawuki expressed concern towards the government for handing over some of the kingdom buildings but it still occupies some of them performing different activities in them, and appealed to government to return them at once.

Buddu Chief Jude Muleke reported to the Katikkiro that the work of the construction of the Buddukiro house has encountered challenges siting some of the people in Buddu who were negative towards this work, but they have been able to complete it.

The chairman for the construction committee Elisha Muwonge reported to the Katikkiro the unity among Buddu people during the construction of the house through social and financial support.

This house was constructed in 1935 and has been in hands of the government for over 40 years since 1966 when the then government of Milton Obote put an end to Kingship system in the country. It took over most of the Buganda kingdom belongings including this house, land, buildings and others. But in 2019 this house was returned to Buganda kingdom and it’s renovation started until now when it has been completed.
