The Katikkiro of Buganda Owek Charles Peter Mayiga has visited the Kasubi Masiro Tombs to see the progress of the reconstruction of the Muzibuazaalampanga house and other activities in the Tombs.

The Katikkiro revealed that last year he was part of the UNESCO meeting in Saudi Arabia and his going there was for the Tombs to be removed from the list of the endangered heritage sites in Africa as the Tombs were put on this list when it caught fire in 2010.

Owek Mayiga noted that ever since the work of the reconstruction of the Tombs started in 2013, it has been progressing since the reconstruction has to be done following specific cultural procedure.

He revealed that the work is moving on well since September last year when he last visited the Tombs and according to him, a lot has been done such as the Tombs compound, the inside fencing, electricity connection inside the Tombs, more houses are being constructed inside among other activities.

However according to Owek Mayiga, people want to know when the Tombs are to be reopened officially and he noted that he is not to announce the specific day but emphasised that more is still to be done so people need to be patient for the work to be finalised to bring out the Kingdom integrity.

He commended the committee being led by Owek Kaddu Kiberu for the commitment towards the reconstruction of the Tombs among the many discouraging statements from different people. He added that the Tombs are to be managed by Buganda Kingdom under the Buganda Tourism and heritage board and all other partners like the government, UNESCO, world heritage committee among others will be only supporting the running of the Tombs.

The Katikkiro was accompanied by Owek Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, the chairman for the Tombs reconstruction committee Owek Kaddu Kiberu, Robert Kasozi, the Tombs katikkiro Mulumba Nkalubo and others.
