KATIKKIRO Visits Bunyoro On Oil Progress

The Buganda Kingdom Prime minister Charles Peter Mayiga says people in Bunyoro should share the profit that will be got from the oil refinery to overcome poverty among themselves.

This comes at a time when the preparations for oil processing in the areas of Bunyoro is underway saying, it is advantageous to the Bunyoro since it is taking place in their region.

Speaking to the cabinet of the Omukama of Bunyoro at the headquarters in Hoima, Owek Mayiga has challenged the people of Bunyoro to use this as a golden chance to fight poverty among themselves, which will lead to developments such preserving the environment, Improving the education and health system in Bunyoro, improving on farming and agriculture, infrastructural development and starting up of factories in the region.

He adds that Bunyoro should highly enjoy the shares from the oil taking advantage of the fact that it is coming from their region.

However, Owek Mayiga appreciated the fact that Buganda and Bunyoro have common features and he revealed that Buganda kingdom is planning to set a committee that will bring together Bunyoro and Buganda to help work on the needs they have in common, such as improving the education system, health among others.

 The Omukama of Bunyoro Andrew Byakutaaga Omuhikirwa has appreciated the Katikkiro for the visit and liked the Katikkiro’s idea of Bunyoro benefiting more from the oil shares saying, they are also looking towards that.

He appreciated the Buganda kingdom for the hospitality it showed towards the delegate that was sent from Bunyoro to tour Buganda and all the support that Buganda kingdom has been rendering towards Bunyoro kingdom activities, and pledged more cooperation.

 The Omukama presented the challenges Bunyoro Kitara kingdom is facing such as poverty, pressure from land, migration, population increase and poor health. He commended the progress he has driven the kingdom to, and pledged collaboration with him for more developments.

He noted that Bunyoro kingdom has taken the development examples that Owek Mayiga has brought to Buganda kingdom in promoting his ideas among Bunyoro people, such as growing coffee through Mwanyi terimba project, Restoring the kingdom properties. Investments, reviving the kingdom culture through ekisakaate among others.

The Katikkiro was accompanied by Owek. Godfrey Wagwa Nsibirwa Buganda Kingdom minister for special duties and Owek. Noah Kiyimba the Kingdom minister of Information among others.
