Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Hall Magistrate Court has again adjourned the ruling on the case of Habibu Buwembo, an activist and member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), to September 10th, 2024.
Buwembo is accused of maliciously publishing statements about Speaker of Parliament Annette Among, referring to her as “Karamajongo iron sheets.”
The adjournment was due to the absence of Grade One Magistrate Rehema Nassozi, who is handling the case, as she was attending to other state duties. The ruling was postponed by His Worship Edgar Karakiri on behalf of Nassozi.
Buwembo, who was arrested and detained at Luzira Prison for over a month, was released on a cash bail of 3 million Ugandan shillings and a non-cash bail of 10 million shillings for each of his two sureties.
Speaking shortly to the journalists after the adjournment, Buwembo expressed frustration and disappointment, stating that the continuous adjournments are a waste of time and a financial burden on him.
However, he threatened to file a civil suit against Speaker Annette Among if his case is dismissed.
