KCCA FC’s hopes of retaining the Uganda Premier League suffered a huge blow as they were held to a scoreless draw by Proline FC.
It was a game that saw both side miss good opportunities especially towards the end of the game with KCCA hitting the frame of the goal deep into injury time at the end of the 90 minutes.
In the 3rd minute of additional time, Saddam Juma clipped a ball into the area which was bundled onto the bar by Proline left-back Richard Ajuna.
It was the closest either side came to winning it despite a host of decent chances at both ends.
The result means KCCA FC remains second, three points behind leaders Vipers SC who take on Wakiso Giants FC on Friday.
KCCA FC have seen some sort of exodus at the club in the last 2-3 years as a host of senior players have departed.
Despite the loss of those players, they have continued to lead from the front as they graduate youthful players from their academy as well as acquiring others from different sides in the country.
However, injuries have haunted them in the recent past and went into Tuesday’s game with up to eight first team players out.
As a consequence, they fielded a team comprising of mostly young players from the academy.
In a game where the Kasasiros had to pick all three points to stay within touching distance of Vipers SC, all they could get was a point.
Despite looking poor at the back, they created chances at the other end.
Moses Aliro raced onto a Filbert Obenchan throgh-ball but shot weakly at Shatif Magoola in the Proline goal.
Record Junior League top scorer Sadat Anaku headed Saddam Juma’s free kick wide before Julius Poloto blazed over on the half volley.
In the second half, Aliro shot over from a free kick before Magoole pulled off two brilliant saves to deny the hosts.
First he pushed away Ssekisambu’s effort after Anaku had robbed Ibrahim Ssendi of th ball before the custodian exhibited good reflexes to parry a Samuel Kato deflected-snap effort.
It is a draw that will feel like a loss for KCCA FC. If Vipers win on Friday, the Kasasiros will drop six points off the pace with just five games to play.
Proline have spent almost the entire campaign at the foot of the Uganda Premier League standings.
However, the inconsistency exhibited by the sides above them has allowed them to stay in the race for survival.
The Lugogo based side came into the game on the back of a 2-1 victory at home to Tooro United FC which left them just four points off 13th spot.
They will feel they should have walked away with all three points int the contest after creating the better chances.
Bright Anukani saw a free kick go over before forcing Ali Mwirusi into a low save.
The youngster then blazed over from the penalty spot after he was teed up by Hamis Kizza.
Mato, Kiwanuka, Mujuzi and Mandela also got close but could not capitalize from lethargic defending from the hosts.
Substitute Brian Umony was at the receiving end of two glorious opportunities to win the game for Proline but failed to pounce on Samuel Kato’s slip before a lobbed effort went wide with Mwirusi stranded and out of his goal.
Proline remain bottom of the standings but move onto 22 points, level with both Proline and Tooro United FC who occupy the other two relegation spots.
