Pepsi University Football League
Thursday Result:
Kyambogo University 1-0 Muni University
Kyambogo University controversially earned a 1-0 win over Muni University in Pepsi University football league game honored on Thursday afternoon at Kyambogo University playground.
Mbalire Hudson scored the only goal that won Kyambogo University maiden win of the season.
The goal came in the 81st minute when the skipper, Mbalire Hudson tapped in Opio Mark’s cross laid from left flank.
However, the goal was strongly contested by Muni University playing staff and Technical bench citing that the scorer of the goal was offside and the move to the goal started when there is an intruder (fan) in the pitch to which they claim that was against the law.
At this point, the game went into pause for at least 10 minutes and at this point, the Muni University custodian won himself a yellow card when him and his fellow players attacked the centre referee.
It needed the league manager, Anthony Tumwesigye and the security to cool down the situation and sweet talk the Muni players to return back to the pitch and finish the game.
Besides the chaos and unsporting behaviors of some Kyambogo University students (fans), Muni University had the most possession of the ball though they didn’t not create clear cut chances tht would help them get their first away goal of the season.
The win moved Kyambogo University from bottom of group C to second place with three points, Muni moved to third place with a point, Makerere University on top while Ndejje University on bottom with one point.
“To me the best team lost, of course if you see the performance in the pitch, the away team was really outstanding, our boys did well, it’s only that the home team had the home Advantage, that’s how they ended up to take it all.
“There is going to be a return game, we still have some more games we can bounce back, I believe in my boys, they are very strong, they can do it.” Says Muni University tactician, Atiku Ronnie.
“It wasn’t an easy game, it was our first game at home, from a loss away, so we tried as much as we can to bring back these boys to build their confidence, here we are at least we got three points at home and that’s why you us we were trying to so much attack, because when we were playing against Makerere we were so defensive.” Says Lobbo Christopher Kyambogo University tactician.
The league resumes on Friday when two wounded sides, Victoria University and YMCA will be meeting at IUIU Kabojja campus.
