Lugogo to be developed into a state of the art multipurpose indoor sports complex-Museveni

Lugogo to be developed into a state of the art multipurpose indoor sports complex, this was revealed after the Turkish construction company called Summa has on Tuesday September 19 presented a proposal to H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museven in a meeting with company officials and other stakeholders at state House.

This meeting aimed for president Museveni’s proposal assessment, consideration and approval.

Mr. Museven who was flanked by his wife and minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha, welcomed the proposal as he stated through his X platform bellow;

‘I welcome the proposal by Summa, a Turkish construction company, to construct a modern state-of-the-art multipurpose indoor sports complex at Lugogo in Kampala.’

” The government will support them because we need it to continue developing sports in Uganda. Infrastructure plays a crucial role in our Country’s development and growth across various sectors.’ H.E. President stated.

The officials briefed the President and the First Lady that the complex will include a multipurpose indoor Arena with the seating capacity of 15,000 people, a small indoor sports Arena with a seating capacity of 3,000 people, a 25m- eight (8) lane swimming pool, a multi-purpose standard pitch and an athlete hostel with a capacity of 60 people.

The Complex will also have an accommodation facility with 120 rooms as well as a showroom, shopping center and a state-of-the-art fitness gym, among other amenities.

The technical team also informed the President that the current state of the sports facilities at Lugogo does not meet the standard to host international competitions and yet such international events are in one way or the other drivers of economic success because they generate revenue while at the same time create jobs and more investments.

Mr. Murat Altun, the Project Manager of Summa construction Company said as a firm they are ready to work on the project and will complete it on time. He added that their construction company has been able to successfully set up projects in various countries such as Rwanda.

The government seem to be in moods of ensuring the modernization of the infrastructure, prioritizing sports, as Mandela National stadium Namboole is near to its rehabilitation completion, Teriat High Altitude Athletics grounds is also in its construction final touches, as well as Nakivubo stadium and the Construction of new multibillion shillings stadium in western Uganda is underway

Other projects being implemented by 10 additional districts hosting refugees such as Terego, Obongi, Yumbe includes, community roads, markets and resource centres.

The country is confident that the upcoming state-of-the-art sports complex at Lugogo if is well supervised will significantly elevate Ugandan sports and building a brighter future for sports in the country!

Lugogo currently hosts the headquarters of National Council of Sports, Uganda Olympic Committee, Uganda National Cricket Oval, National Indoor Arena(MTN) and Uganda National Tennis Courts among others
