Luke Shaw says Manchester United need to make more signings before the transfer window closes in just over two weeks.

United suffered a chastening 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace in their season opener and have until October 5 to strengthen until the January transfer window opens.

Donny van de Beek remains the only signing United have made this summer amid protracted negotiations over Jadon Sancho. United are open to reinforcing their defence with a centre-back and a left-back but have prioritised improving their attack this summer, with a right winger earmarked as the priority.

Left-back Shaw was culpable for Andros Townsend’s strike at Old Trafford but accepts the United squad has to improve if they are to become a credible force this season.

“As I said, we have a very good group, but personally I think we need more players to strengthen the squad,” Shaw told TV2. “It can give us a boost. When you look around at how other teams are strengthening their teams, then we must also do it to keep up with the others.”
“Possibly everything went wrong,” Shaw added. “Personally, from my point of view, the pre-season that we’ve had altogether is not the correct way it should have been. We’ve had a week all together.
