With a place in next season’s Champions League nearly in their grasp, Manchester United look to add three more points to their Premier League total on Saturday at Old Trafford against Everton, who find themselves perilously close to the relegation places.
Manchester United are in fourth place on 53 points, 19 points behind first-placed Arsenal. Fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, the first club outside of the Champions League spots, are three points behind United. Manchester United won their last Premier League match 1-0 at home against Brentford, breaking a three-match winless streak (W0 D1 L2).
Everton played out a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park in their last league match to extend their unbeaten streak to four (W1 D3 L0), leaving them in 16th place on 27 points. The Toffees are level on points with 18th-placed Bournemouth but just outside of the relegation zone.
The previous Premier League fixture between the teams saw Manchester United triumph 2-1 at Goodison Park in October. Antony opened the scoring for United in the 15th minute. Cristiano Ronaldo also was on the scoresheet. Alex Iwobi scored the Toffees’ lone goal in the fifth minute.
Marcus Rashford has been a key performer for Manchester United this season. The striker is the club’s leading scorer with 15 goals, which is the fourth highest in the league in 2022/2023, seven of which have been the critical first of the match.
Demarai Gray, Dwight McNeil, and Abdoulaye Doucouré have been Everton’s most prolific players this season, netting four, three, and two times, respectively.
Hosts Manchester United have been tough to beat at home this season with 10 wins, three draws, and just one loss in 14 Premier League contests. Everton will seek to address a poor run of results away from Goodison Park this season with six draws, seven losses, and just one win in league away contests. The Toffees currently find themselves on a 10-match away winless streak (W0 D4 L6). They haven’t earned a win away since October 2022 against Southampton.
In their last six league matches, Manchester United have won three, drawn one and lost two. Everton, meanwhile, have won one, drawn three and lost two in their last six.
