Manchester United have reportedly made the breakthrough in their efforts to agree a new contract with Marcus Rashford.

The Red Devils are currently in the process of trying to add to their squad for 2023-24, Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana in line to join Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount in making the switch to Old Trafford.

However, partly owing to their issues with FFP, United are yet to add a fresh centre-forward to their squad, with Napoli forward Victor Osimhen among those now seemingly out of their price range.

United are still expected to push hard for the signing of Atalanta BC forward Rasmus Hojlund, yet the powers-that-be have also needed to focus on trying to secure Rashford’s future.

Towards the end of last year, club officials activate the 12-month extension in the deal of the club’s star man at a time when he has produced his best form at the Theatre of Dreams.

During 2022-23, Rashford contributed a magnificent 30 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, the England international responding to Erik Ten Hag’s arrival in the dugout.

Nevertheless, taking up the one-year clause in his contract only heaped the pressure on eventually agreeing fresh terms with the long-serving attacker as soon as possible.

A quick agreement has not been forthcoming, the 25-year-old now in the final 12 months of his contract, yet it now appears that a resolution will soon be confirmed.

According to The Athletic, an ‘agreement in principle’ has been reached regarding the signing of a new contract.

The report claims that United and Rashford’s representative Dwaine Maynard are in the final stages of negotiations before an official announcement is made.

Although a possible wage is not reported in the aforementioned outlet, it has previously been suggested that Rashford could earn a rise, taking him into the region of £375,000 per week.

His new contract is expected to run until 2028, with United potentially insisting on a fresh 12-month option like they do with many high-profile signings and renewals.

Rashford is currently preparing to represent United on their pre-season tour of the United States, the club due to fly out on Wednesday.
