above is the ministry of health statement on Ebola outbreak made in early June.

Health authorities in greater Masaka are on a red alert over a suspected case of Ebola virus.

This was after a patient exhibited suspected symptoms of the haemorrhagic fever at Kitovu Hospital, Masaka District.

Officials on Wednesday said the Ebola suspect experienced symptoms in Kyotera, a town in the newly created Kyotera district about 50 Kilometres  away from Masaka Town.

She was initially admitted at Byansi Clinic before being transferred to Kitovu Hospital.

Mr. Emmanuel Ainebyona, the senior public relations officer at the Ministry of Health has confirmed the development and said blood samples from the patient have been sent for further analysis.

“It’s an alert case and a sample has been drawn and taken to UVRI for further testing,” he confirmed in a WhatsApp Chat.

“Let the residents of Kyotera be calm as Ministry of Health investigates the alert case,” he added.

Early this month, Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng and World Health Organization (WHO) Representative Dr. Yonas Tegegn Woldmariam in a joint travel advisory declared the county Ebola free.

The advisory noted that as of July 4, all people who directly or indirectly came into contact with the confirmed EVD patients completed the mandatory 21 days of follow-up without developing any signs and symptoms of the disease.
