Mbarara City secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Busoga United in the Uganda Premier League clash at Kakyeka Ground.

Namasa Edward’s first-half strike for the hosts proved decisive in a match where opportunities were scarce for both teams.

The win sees Mbarara City bounce back from their previous 2-0 loss to NEC FC, marking their second victory at home in the second round of matches.

Meanwhile, Busoga United continues to struggle in the latter half of the season, remaining winless after succumbing to a 3-2 defeat against NEC as they battle against relegation.

This loss marks Busoga United’s first defeat to Mbarara City since 2019.

The game remained tight, but Mbarara City broke the deadlock in the 13th minute when Namasa capitalized on an unmarked opportunity from Sadiq Ssekyembe’s corner kick.

Despite chances for both sides, Mbarara City almost doubled their lead through Joseph Akandwanaho’s effort, while Busoga United’s attempt to equalize was thwarted by goalkeeper Wycliffe Manja Mori, who made a notable league debut by tipping Bashamu Mugwa’s header over the bar.

With this result, Mbarara City climbs to 10th place with 23 points, while Busoga United stays put in 14th position with 15 points.

Mbarara City will return to action on Friday 8th March against Bright Stars at Kavumba Recreation Ground while Busoga United will host Gaddafi FC at Kakindu Stadium on Thursday 29th February.
