The defending champions, KCCA FC led the game at Kakyeka but by the last whistle they lost it 2-1 away to Mbarara City FC on Tuesday.

The Kasasiro boys who came into the game unbeaten in their last six, scored through Sam Ssenyonjo but two goals from Ibrahim Orit and Bebe Swalik ensured they suffered their third loss of the season.

After a slow start, KCCA FC took the lead on 18 minutes when Ssenyonjo headed in a Kezironi Kizito perfectly weighted cross.

Mbarara equalized three minutes to the break through eventual man of the match-Orit.

The tricky winger headed home past Charles Lukwago, a Brian Ahebwa cross.

Sensing danger, Morley Byekwaso who stepped in for the absent Mike Mutebi, took of the ineffective Muzamir Mutyaba and replaces him with Eric Ssenjobe.

Mbarara was taking the game to KCCA and all that stood between them and a second goal was Lukwago.

The shot stopper did well to deny Ahebwa from close range before pushing away a Pistis Barenge long-range drive.

However he could do nothing about Swalik’s rebounded effort on 70 minutes.

Swalik pounced after Lukwago had parried a Solomon Okwalinga teasing cross and John Revita had failed to clear the ball to safety.

KCCA FC tried to mount a come-back but did not create enough in front of goal, enabling Mbarara to walk away with all three points.

The victory is Mbarara’s third in as many games ever since Brian Ssenyondo replaced Paul Nkata as head coach.

The Ankole Lions who have now completed all their first round games, have 19 points and climb into 9th on the standings.

For KCCA FC, they stay 4th with 26 points rom 13 games.

They next take on SC Villa and Proline FC before they complete the first round.

Victory in both games will see them end the first round in second with 32 points.
