US Ambassador to Uganda Deborah Malac on Wednesday paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Health Jan Ruth Aceng to bid her farewell as she wraps up her assignment in Uganda.

Ms Malac has visited a number of top government officials as a wrap up of her stay, the latest being the Minister of Health, whom she met at the ministry headquarters.

Taking to her twitter handle, Minister Aceng wrote; “I bid farewell to my sister, Amb. Deborah Malac, the US Ambassador to Uganda, this morning. She has been very flexible, accessible and instrumental in Uganda’s significant achievements in the health sector.”

The Minister commended Ms Malac for helping Uganda better understand the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a US government initiative to help save the lives of those at risk of HIV/AIDS.

“Amb. Malac enabled us better understand PEPFAR and created a great cohesion between the US Embassy and Government of Uganda.

Her efforts and support have shown great progress in reducing HIV, Malaria and TB burden. On behalf of the Ministry of Health, we are proud to have walked your journey in Uganda with you. Thank you for always being there with us as and when required. Hope to see you back in Uganda soon. We shall miss you,” she said.

Malac’s tenure as USA Ambassador to Uganda comes to an end in February 2020 and Ms Natalie Brown was announced as her replacement.

Ms Malac, a career diplomat was nominated by former US President Barack Obama in September 2015 and took over from Ambassador Scott Deilsi who had announced his retirement. Senate confirmed her appointment in November 2015 and she presented her credentials to President Yoweri Museveni in February 2016.
