Mr Anthony Akol, the Member of Parliament for Kilak North Constituency in Amuru district, has been brought to Kampala for further medication after sustaining injuries in an accident near River Kafu in Nakasongola district along Kampala-Gulu highway on Tuesday morning.

According to the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Julius Allan Hakiza, the accident happened when the Land Cruiser vehicle Reg. No. UAY 347W in which they were travelling, knocked some cows on the road at around 1.30am,

The MP was first admitted at Kiryandongo Hospital before being brought to Kampala.

The incident comes days after Rwampara MP Charles Ngabirano was on Thursday, October 31, 2019 admitted to Mayanja Memorial Hospital in Mbarara after being injured in an accident.

The vehicle the legislator was travelling in veered off the road at Mile 6 (Omurucheche) along Mbarara-Kabale road and drove into the bush.

The MP was heading to the district headquarters where electing of new district leaders is underway. Rwampara District was created in July. The elections of the interim LCV Chairperson for Rwampara has flopped two times. The elections flopped in July after only four out of the seven councillors turned up.

Many MPs have been involved in accidents of late. In April, Mbarara Municipality Member of Parliament Michael Tusiime was involved in a motor accident. In March, Nakawa Member of Parliament Michael Kabaziguruka was admitted to hospital after he was involved in another car accident. Mr Kabaziguruka said his car collided with another MP’s car. The other MP is said to be in critical condition. The accident happened at Matugga along Bombo road.

In July last year, the MP sustained a double fracture on one of his legs when the ambulance van he was driving collided with another truck near the Uganda Manufacturers Association Showground in Lugogo, Kampala
