The two heads of state, president Yoeri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda and Paul Kagame of Rwanda have today Wednesday 21st August 2019 meet in Luanda Angola and signed an agreement to improve the political and economic relations between the two neighbouring countries.
Mr. Museveni said,”today, I joined my counterparts from Angola, DR Congo, Rwanda and Congo Brazzaville in Luanda, as together with President Paul Kagame, we signed an agreement to improve the political and economic relations between our countries.
We have agreed on a raft of issues that will be implemented between the two countries, largely meant to improve our security, trade, and political relations. Uganda is fully committed to enforcing this agreement.
I thank Presidents; Joao Lourenco of Angola and Felix Tshisekedi of DR Congo for overseeing this process.
I also thank His Excellency Dennis Sassou Nguesso for witnessing the signing as Chair of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, president Museveni cited after the meeting.
After the signing, Kagame said he did not anticipate any problems in working “more specifically with President Museveni to address what we have agreed to address”.
In March 2018, leaders of the two countries met in Kampala and agreed to resolve differences amid counter accusations of fanning war against one another. However, this meeting did not resolve the differences that climaxed in the closure of the border by Rwanda in February this year.
Rwanda closed its border points to Uganda in February this year to date, alleging that they going to rehabilitate their roads but even the reconstruction done last the borders remained closed, other say that Rwanda government claims Uganda to have to hosted their enemies.
