The Federation of Uganda Football Association has announced that Wankulukuku stadium will not be allowed to host Uganda Premier League games.
The stadium is home to UPL sides Express FC and Bright Stars FC who have been hosting their games from the venue since the start of the season.
However, its state has forced the federation to expel it as it no longer meets the minimum standards required.
“This serves to inform you that the status in which Wankulukuku stadium is in does not meet the minimum standards to host the StarTimes Uganda Premier league matches, reads the letter.
“In line with the above, Wankulukuku Stadium has been suspended from hosting matches with effect from 30th of October 2019.
“It should be noted that deterioration of the grounds below the required standard during the season can lead to revoking it’s stadium clearance to host 1st Division matches.”
Wankulukuku was used for the ‘Mbutu ye Mbutikizi’ concert this past Sunday which left it in a bizarre state.
On Tuesday, Express lost 2-1 at home to Busoga United at the venue but it was evident the state of the pitch hampered the flow of the game.
Wankukuku has been home of express FC since time memorial.
For Bright Stars, they joined the Red Eagles this season after their initial home-venue in Mwerere was deemed to be below standards.
The Red Eagles have hosted five games at the venue this season, winning just one, drawing the other and losing three.
Bright Stars have also played 5 games at the venue, losing twice and drawing the other three.
The availability of venues in the league has become an issues as Mandela National Stadium was deemed unavailable for two weeks, last week.
It remains to be seen where both Express and Bright Stars will host their next home games.
Express’s next home game will be against Maroons FC while Bright Stars host Onduparaka in their upcoming fixture.
