Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku to host the 2022 Masaza, Bika Cup finals

The Kingdom Minister of Sports, Youth and recreation, Owek. Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu has on Thursday Feb 9th 2023 officially announced the dates and Venue for the 2022 Masaza and Bika Cup football tournaments finals.

While addressing the press Owek. Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu extended his apology to all stakeholders who have been inconvenienced by the delay of the finals when said,“ I humbly request all the teams other stakeholders to accept our apology as an institution, we promise to improve next time.”he apologised.

The long awaited final match of the Masaza Cup Football tournament between the three time champions Buddu and Busiro will be played on Saturday, 4 March 2023 at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku Kyadondo.

While; Bika Cup Bik Football tournament Final where the seven time winner Lugave Clan Football Team will be battling Ndiga Clan Football Team to end the ninteen years Shield drought, will be played on March 11 2023 at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku togather with that of Netball championship between Mamba Namakaka (Gabunga) and Nyonyi Nyange a week after that Masaza,

In the Masaza Cup final game Buddu will be looking for their fourth title and becoming the team ever to defend this championship, whereas their opponent Busiro will be seeking for their maiden tittle having been runners up in 2019.

Unlike the previous tournaments, this time the final comes in about five months since the semifinals were played in October 2022.

While addressing the media at the press conference at Kingdom headquarters Bulenge Mengo Ssekabembe who was flanked by Katambala who doubles as the Bika Cup organising committee chaiman, Haji Suleiman Magala together with the Masaza Cup tournament organising committee headed Mr. Suleiman Ssejjengo stated that “there were so many stumbling issues ongoing within the Kingdom establishment that led to the delay of the two tournaments finals that Masaza Cup and Bika Cup as well.”

“It’s not that we are scaling on the preferences and that Masaza or Bika Cup is not very important, but it has taken long because of unavoidable circumstances,” added Ssekabembe.

Notably, the final will be held at Muteesa II Memorial Stadium, shifting from St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende which held the last two editions after moving away from Namboole which is still under renovation.

Ssekabembe justified the decision for choosing Wankulukuku claiming that it has the ability to host the final that comes with huge numbers.

“All of us would have loved to be at Namboole Stadium but you know what’s taking place there. We would have loved to be at Kitende but you are aware of their busy schedule at the Stadium. Whereas Wankulukuku is also part of Buganda, and it’s a Kingdom’s stadium, although there is a shortage of playgrounds that status in the Kingdom and country at large.”
