Nakayima wins Silver Medal Uganda as Para Badminton International championship climaxed

The Uganda Para Badminton International championship successfully climaxed on Sunday evening and the Pearl of Africa secured nine medals.

For starters, Uganda is the only country on African continent that hosts International Para Badminton tourney due to a number of requirements needed to host a tournament of such a magnitude.

Former Worlds number eight, Palak Kohli lauded Uganda Badminton Association for having a highly organized tournament.

The 20 year old who sits 39th in world ranking following her return to action from injuries.  

Kohli who was ranked number 8 in November 2021 on world ranking before sustaining injury which resulted a surgery, the Indian managed to clinch a SL4 women gold medal defeating Ugandas’ Harriet Nakayima on final.

After the game which ended 21-3 21-5 Kohli in an interview with this website, She appreciated Uganda for having a well organized tournament.

“I congratulate the organizers for organizing this event, it has been good, I thought I had a lot to adjust so that I can fit in the condition but that didn’t happen to me, the courts have been in good condition and everything have been well, it has been a successful tournament.” She Said.

Palak was not the only International player to appreciate the event Standard, Wheel Chair category Ruchi Trividi also Indian who won a bronze medal at 2004 Athens Paralympic also praised the improvement in organization of the event. 

“This is my fourth time to be here in Uganda but this is the best event” said the Olympician.

Uganda secured nine medals in the Championship, eight bronze medals and one silver that was received by Nakayima.

In this Championship, Uganda had 35 entries, male and female but the women had a better display than the male because with all the nine medals Uganda is celebrating, none is for male sex.

Africa Championship is the following tournament and it’s commencing on Tuesday at Lugogo Indoor Arena and 11 nations  be taking part.
