Namilyango College one of the country’s most enduring and distinguished schools on sunday, March 2023 celebrated 121 years of existence and launched the Peregrine Kibuuka Endowment Foundation plus the College 10 year strategic plan
The Functions was graced by the speaker of Parliament RT. Hon. Anita Annet Among as the Guest of Honour, and other dignitaries from all corners of the country
The Speaker, in her remarks said the government will not allow a small group of people to ‘poison our morals’. She said the recent spike in activities related to homosexuality present a threat, noting that Uganda is a country that is held together by certain values which must be maintained.
“We commit to remain resolute to guard what we believe in. We cannot just look on as a small group of people seek to hijack us into unnatural practices,” she said.
The Speaker also warned students against bullying which she said was a dangerous vice that has seen some students killed.
“Most of us were no bodies. We were not from rich families, but because we took intentional steps and made books our business, we are here today. I have a friend who has taught me to believe that education is the best equalizer,” she said.
Among also joined others in applauding Namilyango College for being an integral part of Uganda’s history, noting that it, ‘is difficult to have a proper narration of Uganda without mentioning Namilyango College which has nurtured a number of Ugandans over the years’.
“We cannot thank God enough for giving us the best hands and the wisdom that has maintained our school at the highest level to make it the pride of our country,” she said
The Speaker contributed 50million Uganda shillings towards the the Peregrin Kibuuka Foundation. The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) contributed 10million and the FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo also contributed 5million shillings.
The Peregrine Kibuuka Endowment Foundation, a key pillar of the College’s 10-year strategy, targets to raise UGX1 bn that will be invested and proceeds used to Fund various College initiatives.
Peregrine Kibuuka is a fallen longtime Headteacher at Namilyango College, the oldest secondary school in Uganda located at Namilyango Hill, Seeta in Mukono District. The school was founded on March, 23rd 1902. Kibuuka died in October 2021.
Mill Hill Missionaries founded the school as the country’s first post-primary college school with 13 students, to train catechists for evangelism and to educate the sons of chiefs. But the future promised otherwise.
The legacy of the Mill Hill Missionaries still lives at this college in brick and cement. The old building with bricks and tiles so old tell of old age.
For the 121 years of Existence, the College has produced hundreds of prominent Alumni. The notable ones include; Eng. Moses Hassim Magog MP Budyope East, Eng. Richard Sebamala, MP Bukoto Central Masaka District, Justice J.B Katutsi- Retired High Court judge, Prof. John Sebuwufu – former VC Makerere, Gerald Ssendawula – former minister, Apollo Makubuya – Attorney General, Buganda Kingdom, Alex Asiimwe – Managing Director, Monitor Publications, Edgar Agaba – former ED PPDA, Pastor Martin Sempa – Evangelist, among others.
