The FDC EC on the 8th September 2023 opened the process of picking nomination forms to fill the positions on NEC. All NEC positions were put up for members to express interest depending on the will and capacity. This specific process of picking nomination forms closed on 15th September 2023 leading to the process of nominating candidates who fulfilled the nomination requirements.

Addressing the media on 25th September 2023, at party headquarters Najjanankumbi Kampala during its weekly presser, the party electoral commission Chairman Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda disclosed that the commission received 156 interested members to vie for the various party NEC positions and at the end of the nominations on Thursday 21st September, 2023, EC verified the return forms of 79 candidates.

He says the candidates have been allowed to campaign from today 25th September up to 4th October 2023, and they are now free to hold town hall meetings with delegates and no use of money and abusive words to influence voters adding that they expect more than 1000 voters.

“All the nominated candidates were issued with a nomination certificate and the draft delegates list (voters register) to enable them to conduct campaigns legally,” Toterebuka stated.

He adds that in this process, they registered 34 unopposed candidates and out of 58 vacant positions only 24 NEC positions will be elected.

“The fully nominated candidates will be elected on the 6th October 2023. The candidates will be expected to serve in respect of the party constitution till the end of their term in 2028,”Kikonyogo Toterebuka said.

The party deputy spokesperson John Kikonyogo lashed at Kampala lord mayor also party vice president in charge of central region Haji Sssaalongo Eriasi Kukwago for the statement made that the party electoral commission leadership is illegally in place.

“I heard Lukwogo saying that Mr. Toterebuka Bamwenda Boniface is holding the office illegally because it’s Yufusu Nsibambi who is supposed to hold that office but the problem Lukwago has is he doesn’t want to consult his fellow party NEC seniors who joined the party before him,”Kikonyoo said.

He says even when Lukwago was appointed vice party president in charge of Buganda, Bamwenda was in this office.

“When Lukwogo brought back his nomination form, he submitted it to Mr. Bamwenda, so he shouldn’t have done it if he knew Bamwenda held this office illegally,”Kikonyogo stated.

“I want to also make it clear that whoever is dissatisfied with any party leadership including what is going on is free to go to courts of law,” Kikonyogo added.

Those who are unopposed are Nathan Nandala Mafabi for secretary general, Musoke Hamisi Walusimbi for secretary for presidency, Yusuf Nsibambi for vice present in charge of Buganda, among others.

Others who have been also vetted are Patrick Oboi Amuriat, and Moses Byamugisha both for party presidency, John Kikonyogo and Ouma Idi for both eying for party publicist among others.

According to Bamwenda Toterebuka Boniface, the candidates will fully be elected on the 06th October 2023.
