As the Kabaka Birthday Run approaches, more groups and organizations continue to support the cause by purchasing the Kabaka Birthday Run kits as a way of responding to the Kabaka’s directive to combat the spread of HIV in the country.

This is one of the events held annually in the lead-up to the Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s, birthday celebrations. The event aims to raise funds to support the fight against the spread of HIV in the country.

Among the groups that have supported the cause is the opposition party, National Unity Platform (NUP), led by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi. The party purchased birthday run kits worth 15 million shillings.

NUP was received by the Buganda Premier, Owek Charles Peter Mayiga, at Bulange Mengo. He cautioned politicians to raise awareness about the spread of HIV, especially during their meetings and campaigns, as they have the opportunity to engage with many people at those times.

Owek Mayiga cautioned that if politicians do not address the spread of HIV among their supporters, it can expose them to a higher risk of contracting the virus, as many of them engage in political enjoyments without proper caution.

NUP Vice President and MP for Butambala, Hon. Mohammed Muwanga Kivumbi, proposed that the Kabaka Birthday Run be turned into a tourism source for the kingdom, as it brings together people from different parts of the country.

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssennyonyi, expressed gratitude to the Kingdom for choosing the theme of the birthday run to focus on combating the spread of HIV, which he believes contributes to the well-being of the people.

The Kabaka Birthday Run is scheduled to take place this weekend, on 6th April 2025, with the Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, expected to flag it off. The event will be held under the theme: “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child.”
