Ndiga clan win first ever Bika football title after beating Lugave clan in the 2022 final

Football: Ndiga 1-0 Lugave

Netball: Ngeye 37-35 Mmamba Gabunga

Ndiga clan win first ever Bika football title after beating seven time champions Lugave clan in the 2022 final

Ndiga (Sheep) clan is the winner in the 2022 Bika Bya Baganda football competition

This followed a hard fought 1-0 win over Lugave during the finale played at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

George Ssenkaaba, a striker at FUFA Big league outfit Kitara Football Club scored the all- important goal in a match raced by the prime minister (Katikiro) Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, Buganda Kingdom minister of sports, leisure and recreation Owek. Henry Moses Ssekabembe Kiberu, other ministers and officials of the different clans.

This was Ndiga’s first ever football title since the Bika tournament commenced in 1950.

The victors were captained by veteran, NEC football club forward Geoffrey Sserunkuma.

They earned UGX 9,000,000 as the top cash prize, gold medals and a shield.

Lugave clan was rewarded with silver medals and UGX 7,000,000.

The football third place match between Ffumbe and Kkobe ended 4-1 in favour of the former.

Ffumbe thus earned bronze medals and UGX. 5,000,000 whilst Kkobe earned UGX. 3,000,000.

Meanwhile, the netball finale was won by Ngeye who overcame record winners Mmamba Gabunga 37-35.

Ngeye earned UGX. 7,000,000 and gold medals as champions.

Mmamba Gabunga took home silver and UGX. 5,000,000.

In absence of the King of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Katikiro Owek. Mayiga was chief guest.

The tournament was skipped in the years 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the entire world.
