NEC beat Northern Gateway to Move to Second on the FUFA Big League table

NEC FC scored at the death to pick a hard fought 2-1 win over Northern Gateway in a FUFA Big League game held at the Gate stadium in lira on Thursday.

Substitute Ssekayi Farouk scored in added time to ensure that his side picked maximum points away from home.

Kiberu Tonny had earlier put NEC ahead in the early stages of the game before Atara Allan levelled matters in the second half.

It was a vital win for NEC in their quest to chase for a promotional place this season.

The win, 14 th for the Bugolobi based side saw them move to 47 points in the second position, one below leaders Kitara, who dropped points against Mbarara City on Thursday.

On Thursday, playing away from home, NEC FC earned a dream start when Kiberu headed in home off a well delivered free kick from Gideon Odongo in the 4th minute, a goal that was the difference at half time.

After the break, the hosts, Northern Gateway came back a more rejuvenated side as they searched for a come back.

And their efforts later paid off in the 70th minute, when Atara levelled matters to give hope to bring back the game to level.

But NEC FC, despite conceding, they remained composed and waited for their moment to change the game.

And in added time, Ssekayi scored the winner to send the traveling fans into wild celebrations.

Victory ensured that NEC FC moved to second, leapfrogging Mbarara City, who squandered a two goal lead to drop points against Kitara on thursday.

For Northern Gateway, it was another poor day at home adding on their misery this season. They remained rock bottom with just 18 points after 25 games in the season.
