National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) Football Club have secured a first-ever promotion to the Star Times Uganda Premier League.

NEC headed into the Thursday game against Kataka FC needing a victory, with Police FC ready to pounce and grab the third place in case of any lapses.

And the Bugolobi outfit didn’t disappoint as they beat Kataka FC 4-1 at the Mbale City Stadium.

A Julius Walugembe brace and a goal apiece from Tonny Kiberu and Marvin Kavuma ensured they made 57 points.

Meanwhile, the Police, their most significant competitors for the final progression place, drew one-all with Jinja North United at Kavumba.

NEC joins Kitara FC and Mbarara City FC, who finished first and second, with 61 and 60 points, respectively, to the top flight.

Kitara beat Kaaro Karungi FC 1-0, while Mbarara City FC thrashed Northern Gateway SC 3-0 on the season’s final day.

It should be noted that NEC have spent only one season at this level after joining the FUFA Big League this campaign, having beaten Water FC in the Kampala regional league playoffs last year, now they will be playing in the top tie next season.
