The State Minister of Sports, Peter Ogwang, on Tuesday presided over the swearing-in of the new National Council of Sports (NCS) board that was named last week.
Few days after the reappointment of board chairman Ambrose Tashobya to steering the National Council of sports weal heading a committee of 7 members.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Ogwang reiterated his commitment to thoroughly deal with anyone who fails to account for government funds given to them to facilitate the running of different sports activities and departments.
“I would like to remind the incoming council on issues of accountability of public funds. All athletes must be paid in their respective bank accounts. All contracts of NCS staff must be reviewed by this council,” Mr Ogwang said.
The board, headed by their chairman Ambrose Tashobya will be in office for the next two years. The event was held at the Copper Chimney, in Kampala.
Mr. Tashobya stating first as the out going chairman’s capacity, “I congratulations my committee members for having successfully conclude our term, during the process we not been just resilient but we kept focused on the course, we have secured some Council’s properties. “We shall sign a memory of understanding with Kyambogo University that is awaiting this event where we shall have a cricket facility and baseball pitch of the modern state of art”
Therefore I congratulate the new board upon the appointment. We also have courses at Uganda Olympics Committee and it is my prayer that it should be mandatory for members of this council to do a Sports Management Course with us says Dr. Donald Kukare UOC president.
At the same event State Minister for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang has hailed the out going Board for supurbillity in securing peace at National Council of Sports.
He further tasked the incoming board to continue from where the outgoing board stoppage to suit higher marks.
In one of the tasks Minister stated. “Sport should take place in all communities to see sports grow as per the new sports act.
Government has increased the funding and the sports facilities to grow the games.
The law reduced the number of board members from 11 to 7 and after thorough consultation i had to dropped other members in pain”
Upon the key tasks Honorable Peter Ogwang have provided an invitation to consider the introduction of sports museum “we always talking about the sports tourism, I think it is meaningful to introduce Sports museum as a way of our athletes to make income and be abled to keep records”
On the committee good we have Kiprotich he won a gold medal I hope we would have the medal along with his photo at the museum and the coming generations can find to know about the records”
