Nottingham Forest appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as new head coachNottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach.

The 49-year-old arrives at the City Ground less than 24 hours after the departure of Steve Cooper, who was relieved of his duties on Tuesday afternoon after two memorable years in charge of the Reds.

Cooper successfully led Forest back into the Premier League via the Championship playoffs in 2021-22, before keeping the club afloat in the top flight with a 16th-placed finish last season.

However, Cooper won just one of his last 13 Premier League games in charge of Forest, who have slipped to 17th place and sit five points above the relegation zone.

Forest have opted to replace Cooper with former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno, who has penned a two-and-a-half-year contract until June 2026.

The Portuguese boasts a wealth of experience having managed over 460 matches in his managerial career, leading teams in the Premier League, La Liga, Primeira Liga, Champions League and Europa League.

Following spells at Rio Ave, Valencia and Porto, Nuno spent four years in charge of Wolves, winning the Championship title before securing back-to-back seventh-placed finishes in his first two seasons as a Premier League manager.

Nuno, who also led Wolves to the Europa League quarter-finals in 2019-20, ended his successful reign at Molineux in 2021 and joined Tottenham, but he was sacked by the North Londoners after just five months at the helm after winning only eight of his 17 games in all competitions.

His most recent spell in management took place in Saudi Arabia with Al Ittihad, where he successfully steered the club to the Saudi Pro League title and Saudi Super Cup in 2022-23, winning 36 of his 56 matches in charge before being dismissed in November.

Forest have confirmed that Nuno will take charge of his first game on Saturday when the Reds play host to Bournemouth at the City Ground in the Premier League.
