The NRM Director of Communication, Hon. Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, has urged contestants and their supporters participating in the Oyam North By-election to refrain from spreading hate speech and inciting violence against one another during their campaigns. He emphasized that maintaining harmony should be the top priority.

Hon. Dombo expressed these sentiments during the pre-campaign harmonized meeting held today, Wednesday, in Loro town council, which was attended by agents representing the four nominated candidates.

The meeting was convened by Martin Matsiko Kafureeka, the deputy Returning Officer for Oyam district.

Mr Kafureeka reassured all candidates and stakeholders of the Electoral Commission’s commitment to remain as neutral as possible in ensuring a fair democratic process.

He further emphasized that any form of provocation or the use of vulgar language by aspirants or their agents during their pursuit of votes would be deemed unacceptable and could potentially result in disqualification.

Official campaigns are set to commence tomorrow, Thursday, the 22nd of June, and will continue until the 4th of July. The polling day is scheduled for the 6th of July.
