NRM candidate Henrietta Nairuba Wamala has trounced People Power candidate to win the hotly contested elections for President of the Uganda North America Association (UNAA).

Henrietta Wamala beat 3 other candidates including People Power’s Eng. John Julius Muwulya who came second in the elections that were held on Sunday at Hyatt Regency Hotel, Chicago Illinois, USA.

Others are; Frank Musisi and Patrick Ogwang. A Social Worker from the Mugulusi family, Buwanume Kamuli Municipality, Wamala had served before as General Secretary of the Association for two consecutive terms. She was outstanding in the open debate, when she focused on issues that affect Ugandans in the diaspora, while her rivals castigated her for her association with the mighty National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party.

Others who were voted include; Lydia Natooro (Vice President), Lambert Etvot as Executive secretary and Godfrey Nyenje as Treasurer.

This 31st UNAA Convention that attracted 1288 voters has been registered as the highest turn up in the history of the Association.

Who is Wamala Henrietta Nairuba? Wamala has been an active member of UNAA since 2005 and served as the organization’s Executive Secretary from 2009-2013. During this time, Henrietta was on the executive committees that organized the UNAA conventions in Washington DC in 2010, in Denver in 2011, and was the overall coordinator of the UNAA conventions in Philadelphia in 2012 and Dallas in 2013.

Prior to that she was a member of the local committee that organized the UNAA convention in Chicago in 2009 where her visionary efforts changed the historically 3-hour Business Forum into the very success day-long Trade and Investment Forum that now takes place at the beginning of every UNAA convention.

Henrietta also served as the Vice President of the Ugandan Women’s Forum in Chicago from 2011 to 2018, and is the current Vice President of the Ugandan Women’s Midwest Association. Henrietta is a wife, a mother, and an ardent volunteer in many local organizations including the Ugandan Community in Illinois and the school her daughter attends.
