NRM parliamentary elections for party flag bearer of Bukono county, Namutumba district have stalled, following a supporter of incumbent MP and candidate also state minister for lands Persis Namuganza was badly beaten.
The ruling NRM party electoral commission chairman Dr Tanga Odoi, suspended elections saying that the party cannot tolerate of violence and insecurity in the area.
“We can’t conduct elections in areas where violence exists till the situation gets normal, he said”.
Intimidation, fighting, and cases of missing registers have been reported in Namutumba as NRM members in the district have been locked in unending disagreements.
Namuganza recently told “msnewsint” that the ground was not leveled for competition in Bukono county, with some “big shots” fighting her for the parliamentary seat.
She adds that some party members are continuing to tamper with voter’s register with an aim of rigging her and acts of violence are increasingly exist.
So far some of the areas where elections have been called off due to disagreements, violence among others are Mawogola west, Mawogola north, Bukono county in Namutumba district among others.
