Emmanuel Okwi scored the only goal as Uganda defeated Ethiopia 1-0 in an international friendly played on Sunday.

In the game played at the Bahir Dar Stadium in Ethiopia, Okwi connected neatly with Joseph Ochaya’s cross in the 20th minute to hand Jonathan McKinstry his first win since taking over as the Cranes head coach early in the month.

The North Irishman named a familiar side for the game, similar to one that featured in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Captain Denis Onyango started in goal and was shielded by a back four of Ronald Mukibi, Bevis Mugabi, Joseph Ochaya and Hassan Wasswa.

In the middle, Tadeo Lwanga, Allan Kyambadde and William Luwagga Kizito.

McKinstry then named a front-three of Patrick Kaddu, Emmanuel Okwi and Abdul Lumala.

The Cranes who are usually strong defensively could not not be breached despite not creating enough to better the score line.

The build up was of significance for Uganda Cranes ahead of the two AFCON 2021 Qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Malawi to be played between 11th and 19th of November 2019.

Majority of many foreign based players will return to the respective clubs by Monday.

The two home based players and the technical team are expected to reach Entebbe International Airport on Monday evening.

Straight away, McKinstry will join the CHAN team that kicked off preparations for the return leg of the TOTAL CHAN 2020 match against Burundi this coming Saturday.
