In Omoro district, a shocking case of alleged aggravated robbery has resulted in the arrest of three suspects, including Onen Michael, the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) of Abuga Sub County, and two others named Akena Benasi and Kidega Justin.

According to a preliminary police report, the suspects have been accused of robbing five suspected smugglers of 5 million shillings and 15 cartons of Supper match cigarettes.

The suspected smugglers, identified as Mweru Emmanuel, Shibuata Rogers, Musa Vincent, Chibuata Richard, and Odeya Ronald, are all residents of Mbale District.

They were reportedly traveling on three motorcycles using community roads in Abwoch Parish when they were intercepted by the GISO and some members of the community at a roadblock.

The suspects then allegedly proceeded to assault and rob them of their cash and cigarettes.

After the incident, one Ozeba Martin, a resident of Bugema sub County in Mbale District, reported the case of aggravated robbery to the police. As a result, David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the report and stated that the police had rescued the victims and evacuated them to St Mary’s Hospital Lacor for treatment.

Mudong further added that statements were later obtained from the victims and relevant witnesses to aid in investigations.

Despite the swift action taken by the police, the incident has raised concerns about the safety of community members and their property. Mudong condemned the behavior of attacking suspects, stating that it could potentially jeopardize ongoing investigations.
