Opodo vows to all those caught and convict in corruption issues to leave offices immediately

The executive director of state house Anti corruption unit, Mr. Ofwono Opondo vowed that the convicted people caught in corruption and embezzlement of the government funds should be out of the offices immediately. The executive director said that most people caught in the embezzlement of government funds and convicted in the court are still in their offices yet are ordered to be out of the offices .

“Most of government officials who are convicted in the corruption matters are still doing their work yet the law says when your caught in corruption and embezzlement of government funds should be out of the offices but unfortunately some of the people appear in their offices but not physically they hide in the corners yet are doing the government work. Even I do known whether these corrupt people are engaged with media personnel especially the editors they usually publish only one for example Agaba yet his names are Edgar Agaba, and when you publish only one does not bring actual image because their are millions of Agaba in Uganda”.

“Now I call upon the media people to come out and expose all the kind of people who are engaged in all corruption issues so that to over come the problem of corruption in Uganda”, Ofwono Opondo added to asserted.

Since 10th December 2018 when HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni launched the Anti corruption unit a total of 58415 complaints received about the corruption issues in Uganda. 8,022 have been concluded, 4017 are currently under investigation and 35280 were referred to relevant MDAs for administrative management ( these are non- corruption/ non- fraud related complaints or they are corruption related but are already under investigation by other agencies.

These complaints relate to among others; land compensations, court delays, already under investigation by IGG or police, welfare inquiries, presidential pledges, disputes between private individuals).

After referral SH- ACU continues to coordinate with the relevant agency to make sure that the complaint is handled and the complainant updated. 11096, these relate to inquiries on progress/update of existing complaints or providing us with additional information.


So far 93 people have been charged in the court of law on corruption related offences ranging from, abuse of office, causing financial loss, conspiracy to defraud, corruption diversion of public funds, embezzlement and impersonation of these 82 are public officers who were accordingly interdicted, while 11 are private individuals.

The unit also recently intervened in the natters to do with labour externalization after is received numerous complaints relating to human trafficking, fleecing and extortion of Ugandans by labour export companies. The following the unit’s intervention, labour export companies have so far refunded over 87 million recieved from complainants whom they failed to externalize, 06 bodies of externalized persons who died in the middle East have been repatriated, 04 trafficked girls and wonen have been brought back home and 5 proprietors of labour externalization companies have been arraignedbin court on human trafficking charges.

The unit has so far secured 5 convictions, 3 in bribery relatedvcases and 2 in respect to persons masquerading as SH- ACU and its intervention in the National gaming and lotteries Board (NGLB) also caused a recovery of approximately shs. 700m irrregularly paid out. Some of the ACU operations conducted and persons charged .
