After one week tournament which started on monday, 26 came to an end today, Saturday at Kampala Club where Ugandans dominated Kenyans in the finals.
William Byaruhanga, won the 50 and above age category final after beating Kenyans Moses Murithi by 3:0 sets on Thursday, then on Saturday , the first ladies final saw Ugandan Edith Wamalwa defeat Kenyan Jane Njeri by 3:0 sets by scores 11/7, 11/9 and 11/8 and the second final was the men’s final where Ugandan ssed number one Paul Kadoma defeated Kenyan seed number one Jimmy Daldi by 3:0 sets by scorers 11/7, 11/9 and 11/9 .
Edith Wamalwa, who was the ladies winner walked away with one million shilling as a prize money while Paul Kadoma, who won men’s final walked away with two million shillings.
According to Don Rukare, the president of Uganda Olympic Committee, he thanked JB Ahimbisibwe for this good tournament and as UOC, they will continue supporting this game and even in schools.
Sports minister for sports Peter Ogwang thanked Ugandans for their good game they showed to win this tournament and as government, they will continue supporting the game.
Edith Wamalwa, a ladies champion said after the game that it was not easy because the Kenyans was so good on the court.
Aldon Walukamba, the corporate communications manager at kinyara sugar works said that as kinyara sugar works “we are delighted to continue supporting sports, and we are particularly proud to embark on this new exciting title sponsorship of the Kinyara Open Squash Tournament 2023.
