Members of Parliament sitting on the Parliamentary Accountability Committee Central are recommending for free services at Mulago women’s specialised hospital.
This was after the MPs shocked by the exorbitant fees charges on patients who go to access services in the hospital.
MPs also got concerned that despite the high costs charged on patients, the hospital continues to draw public funds and can’t run on the revenues collected.
According to the auditor generals report for the financial year 2022/23, Mulago women specialized hospital only collected Non Tax Revenue worth 6bn out of the projected 9bn causing a shortfall of 3bn.
It’s from this that the committee members led by their chairperson Muwanga Kivumbi proposed to the management of the hospital led by Dr. Evelyn Nabunya that parliament recommends to government to pay always pay for the NTR to annually so that women with complicated issues can be treated for free.
However in defense, Dr. Nabunya said that the costs were set by executive and not the management of Mulago women’s specialized hospital.
To deliver from the hospital one needs between 1-20 defending on the complications and level of services which are categorized in silver, gold and platinum.
