Parliament will part with about Shs100m to procure ‘special’ protocol attire for the upcoming 64th Commonwealth Parliamentarians Conference (CPC).
Ugandan parliament is preparing to host one of the largest annual gatherings of Commonwealth Parliamentarians that will take place from 22 to 29 September 2019 at Speke Resort, Munyonyo under the theme; “Adaption, engagement, and evolution of parliaments in a rapidly changing Commonwealth.
” According to the procurement notice signed by Henry Wasswa, Acting Deputy Clerk at parliament, the supply of protocol attire for the international conference will cost Shs97,013,200 and the contract has been handed to Extraordinary Media Group Limited. Parliament will spend about Shs20bn in a conference where over 500 parliamentarians across the globe are expected to attend.
Parliament is expected to procure new vehicles for the conference, provide suitable accommodation for the delegates and their spouses, etc. Two bidders; Bilyanaka Companies Limited and Josam Technologies Limited were unsuccessful in the bidding process that ended in July after being dropped from the financial stage.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference will provide a great opportunity for Parliaments to engage, deliberate and network on parliamentary best practices, governance and democratic values and socio-economic aspirations of the commonwealth fraternity.
