Parliament’s Committee on Appointments has vetted Justice Elizabeth Musoke after being appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as a member of the Judicial Service Commission.
Justice Musoke was vetted in a closed-door meeting of the Appointments Committee chaired by Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among on Monday November 27th 2023 as per the Speakers’ statement posted on X.
“The Appointments Committee, chaired by Speaker has this afternoon vetted Justice Elizabeth Musoke, who was appointed a Member of the Judicial Service Commission. The Committee’s report will be transmitted to the Appointing Authority for further action.” Among said in a brief statement.
Earlier in January, President Museveni appointed Justice Musoke among the three other Justices of the Supreme Court. They included Justice Stephen Musota and Justice Madrama Christopher Martin Izama.
Lady Justice Musoke is poised to fill the vacuum at the Judicial Service Commission following the demise of Justice Mary Stella Arach Amoko, Justice of the Supreme Court who passed away from Nakasero Hospital on 17 June 2023.
The Judicial Service Commission is an institution in the Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) composed of nine members charged with the responsibility of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of justice administration in the country.
Justice Musoke’s legal career started in 1980 as a junior State Attorney in the Directorate of Civil Affairs in the Office of Solicitor General before rising through the ranks to the position of Principal State Attorney, Judge of the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Constitutional Court.
She also served as a member of the Judicial Integrity Committee. The Lady Justice is among the five justices who heard the famous 2018 age-limit petition in Mbale that recommended scrapping the presidential age limit clause from the Constitution.
