WAKISO KCCA FC defeated Wakiso Giants 2-0 to reach the Pilsner Super 8 semi finals.

In the game played at the Wakisha Resource Center on Tuesday, Allan Okello and Sadat Anaku scored in either half to ensure victory for Mike Mutebi’s side.

Both teams were playing their first competitive fixtures at the venue and despite heavy down pour late in the second half, the football was pleasing on the eye.

From the start of the game, Wakiso looked comfortable and not intimidated by the opposition despite reaching the top tier for the first time, at the back end of last season..

Youngster Hassan Ssenyongo and Duncan Sseninde took on the creating initiative, trying to make things happen in the final third.

However, hesitation and poor decision making cost them dearly as they failed to hand proper tests to Jamal Maliyamungu in the KCCA FC goal.

Karim Ndugwa had a half chance go wide early in the second half.

Their only shot on target saw Muwadda Kateregga shot tamely at Maliyamungu late in the opening half.

There was an early scare for the Purple Sharks as Kateregga fell awkwardly under the challenge of Peter Magambo, colliding heavily with the perimeter fence. After medical treatment, the right-back picked himself up and played on.

As the midfield and whole team struggled late in the first half, the Purple Sharks were forced into an change, introducing Ivan Kiwawa in place of the ineffective Ivan Ssebuguzi.

Despite the result, Wakiso gave a good account of themselves and will be a decent side once everyone settles in at the start of the season proper.

KCCA FC will once again be the team to beat this season and despite having a Champions League football to deal with this weekend, Mutebi’s side looked more of the side that won the league last season.

Herbert Achai got their first real chance of the game, curling his effort from just inside the area agonizingly wide.

Saddam Juma then forced Yasin Mugabi into a save on 28 minutes, off a well worked corner by Mike Mutyaba.

With 8 minutes to halftime, Allan Okello broke the dead-lock. Off a swift counter attacking move. Mutyaba played Okello through on goal and the 19 year old made no mistake, finishing nearly into the bottom corner.

Moments later, Sadat Anaku could have doubled the visitors’ lead but dragged his effort wide of the target.

Early in the second half, Kato Samuel picked out substitute Erisa Ssekisambu with a long cross-field pass on 58 minutes but the debutant had his shot blocked by Fahad Kawoya.

Moments later, Okello sent Achai on his way but Mugabi impressively saved the resultant effort.

The second goal came inside additional time. Substitute Patrick Kaddu neatly controlled a long ball, played Anaku through on goal and the youngster rounded Mugabi before slotting into an empty net.

The result means that KCCA FC march into the semi finals, joining Vipers SC, Mbarara City and Onduparaka FC, who sealed their spots earlier.

In the semi finals, KCCA fc will now take on Onduparaka FC on unknown date whereas Vipers SC will battle Mbarara City fc on Friday at Kitende.

Wakiso will now compete with URA FC, Proline FC and Tooro United in the placement matches.
