During the security operations in Kawempe suburb in Kampala city on 23 August 2023 Wednesday night,  six men were arrested armed with axes and other weapons which according to police are among the group of thugs linked to house break acts in the area.

The arrests took place in Muganda and Kidokolo zones of Ttula ward in Kawempe division, where police recovered weapons such as pangas, axes, opium and military uniforms.

This comes at a time when many complaints were coming out from people around kawempe about the recent security situation where in recent months, a number of high profile robberies and burglaries were witnessed in the city and the neighbouring areas.

The operation was conducted by the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) following intelligence reports that men were in possession of government belongings including police uniforms and breaking implements.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango comfirmed  the suspects as being Richard Sserugo, Siraj Sennabulya, Ramanthan Sekandi, Brian Onen, Samson Mpogono, and Bashir Mwagala who have all been charged of possessing goverment property with breaking implements

In one of the incidents, a gang of men raided a home in Nakuwadde village, Wakiso district, and stole electronics worth 2.8 million shillings and also raped a 20-year-old woman who was at that home.

In addition to the arrests made on Wednesday, police have also set up rapid response teams in zones to ensure that all robberies reported are promptly responded to.
